In the early twentieth century, Italian physician Aldo Castellani invented a liquid that was named after him. It was a mixture of fuchsin, phenol, boric acid, resorcinol, alcohol, acetone and water. Due to the fuchsin, the liquid got a beautiful raspberry color.
Castellani dealt with fungal infections and other tropical infections, so of the seven components of his liquid, at least five had antipruritic effects.
Castellani paint is effective against various fungi and bacteria, but it stains clothes on the victim and all the people around him too.
Moreover, it would have been possible to throw out raspberry fuchsin a hundred years ago, but the properties of this dye are very attractive. It not only reduces itching and kills bacteria with fungi, but also helps wounds to heal. It stimulates their overgrowth.
Many have already guessed where this paint is smeared. Right. It is smeared on wet, itchy and corroded places like the interdigital spaces on the legs and groin folds.
Have you seen such things? - gray soggy skin is pulled off sore spots and remains pink as a burn surface. Very unpleasant.
The paint is of course tingling, but it passes quickly.
Someone is trying to send Castellani paint into the furnace along with brilliant green, but this is stupidity. This thing is still relevant today. And if it did not leave stains, then there would be no price for it.
So what has the ears to do with it?
I will explain. People have otitis externa. Water microbes sometimes settle in the ears. The external auditory canal itches, and if you pick it up, it starts to hurt.
Otitis externa is often exacerbated by excess moisture. Swimmers have it. Because of this, many athletes, after swimming, proactively rinse their ears with a mixture of alcohol and vinegar.
Mushrooms sometimes settle in that place. You look into such a person's ear, and there is some kind of black cotton wool. It is a fungal body. And it itches too.
It turns out that people have itchy ears, and inside there they have bacteria and fungi. Guess already? Of course, otolaryngologists quickly thought of adding Castellani paints there.
