Recently, doctors have been talking more and more about the dangers of vitamin A deficiency for the human body. And they are completely afraid of blindness and even malignant neoplasms. But is it really so? Let's figure it out.
It is reliably known (confirmed by numerous studies) that a lack of vitamin A has the most negative effect on the state of our immune system. The body becomes more susceptible to infections, which means that the risk of cancer increases. It is a fact.
And ophthalmologists also claim that it is retinol (aka vitamin A) that is one of the main defenders of the human body's organs of vision from blindness. This vitamin is extremely important for eye health, and this is especially true for those who constantly work at the computer, cannot live without a phone, or simply read a lot. The second fact.
A serious deficiency of vitamin A manifests itself as follows: the adaptation of vision to poor lighting is noticeably impaired, the conjunctiva is often inflamed.
Retinol also affects the condition of human skin and mucous membranes. With a lack of vitamin A, the skin becomes painfully dry, flakes off and, in general, loses its barrier functions, allowing various infections to enter the body. This means that we constantly experience some kind of inflammation, we often get sick.
Scientists who have recently conducted research on this matter have found out: those who regularly include in their own diet foods and dishes rich in vitamin A, less often (by 17%) suffer from squamous cell carcinoma (information "Medic Forum").
At risk are those who are constantly on diets low in fat in food. They just can get the notorious deficiency of retinol, since the latter dissolves exclusively in a fatty medium. Bowel diseases and systematic malnutrition also provoke a lack of vitamin A.
For adults, the daily requirement for retinol (regardless of age, starting from 19 years) is:
- 1000 mg - for men;
- 800 mg - for women.
An increased dose of this vitamin is recommended for pregnant women (1100 mg) and also for mothers who are breastfeeding (1500 mg). But newborns and babies need retinol less, however, starting from the age of 10, the need for it increases significantly. And then you should eat more vegetables (spinach, carrots, bell peppers, pumpkin, tomatoes), liver, liverwurst and cheese. After all, the best vitamin A is absorbed by the human body, which is contained in food (and not in pharmacological additives).
