Core calluses: how to get rid of?

The corns, which annoy us so much, are in fact a protective natural mechanism that saves the skin from rubbing in those places that are exposed to frequent mechanical stress.

One of the subspecies of calluses is pivotal calluses, which are formed most often on the feet (less often on the palms). These are seals / keratinization on the skin, deepening inward and forming a painful "core". If you press, then such a rod will go even deeper, giving a person unpleasant sensations.

Causes of the appearance of core calluses

To provoke the formation of core calluses on the soles of the feet or on the palms of the hands:

- uncomfortable rubbing shoes;

- wearing high-heeled shoes;

- splinters (pieces of glass, wood, metal shavings);

- dermatotropic virus (a type of HPV);

- fungal infections.

Treatment

Despite the fact that there are many "popular" ways to get rid of core calluses, in order to eliminate them forever, it is better to seek help from specialists - dermatologists.

First of all, a dermatologist excludes the possibility of a plantar wart (this is not the same thing at all), as well as a malignant formation (this, unfortunately, can also be). For this, the patient is assigned blood tests, as well as a special examination for the presence of fungal flora.

And if it really is a core corn, one of three possible ways to remove it is chosen:

1. Medical pedicure (usually hardware). This is a great method for mild cases when the callus has just begun to take root. After the skin is softened with a compress with a special healing solution, the specialist selects the cutter for the device and drills the core formation. The procedure is considered painless and can be performed even without local anesthesia. The patient feels only a rapidly passing burning sensation from the operation of the cutter. However, such a pedicure can only be done by a specialist with a medical education.

2. Cryotherapy. This procedure is carried out using liquid nitrogen, which removes keratinized tissues. They already use the drug lidocaine, which provides local anesthesia.

The downside of cryotherapy is that during the session it is difficult to adjust the depth of exposure. So this procedure is effective only for very deep calluses with an area of several centimeters. And after it, you need to follow all the recommendations for healing.

3. Laser. This method is perfect for core calluses. And especially for those that were formed as a result of infection. The laser works practically painlessly, without blood and works very effectively without touching healthy tissues. After that, only a thin dark crust remains, which itself disappears. The rod disappears in one, maximum two laser sessions.

Home removal

Of course, you can also try to get rid of the callus at home. But only if the corn is small, has a mild degree of keratinization and was formed recently. And it is better to consult a dermatologist beforehand.

A pharmacy keratolytic drug is applied to the feet or palms in the affected area, which destroys the bonds between the keratinized cells. After a certain period of time, this preparation is washed off, and the skin is lubricated with a moisturizing cream with a softening additional effect.
