Evolution of HIV: the virus became more infectious

More recently, a sensational statement was made by scientists at the University of California, who said that the human immunodeficiency virus became more infectious than the previous one, as it evolved. And they were able to draw similar conclusions by analyzing blood tests of more than 41 thousand infected patients.

Recall:HIV is a retrovirus from lentiviruses that provokes slowly progressive HIV infection. This virus infects cells of the human immune system, as a result of which it is suppressed, and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome develops.

Simply put, a sick person's body loses its ability to defend itself against all kinds of infections, as well as against tumors. As a result, the patient develops secondary opportunistic (caused by opportunistic viruses or cellular organisms) diseases uncommon for people with normal / normal immune status. And if there is no proper therapeutic correction, then such diseases kill a patient with HIV within 10 (and now even less) years after infection.

So, Californian biologists collected data from blood tests that the examined patients passed to determine the diagnosis within 10 years even before the start of their treatment. And it turned out that during this period in their blood the number of viral particles increased significantly. If in 2007 at the early stages the number of HIV particles per ml of blood was 13,020, then in 2016 it was already 22,100. These research findings, marked important, were published by the English news magazine Nature Communications (London).

Important:it should be taken into account (and this was highlighted in the findings of the California study) that the more HIV particles in the blood sample, the higher the chance of the virus being in the body of another person.

Previously, specialists from the Russian Ministry of Health identified the three most dangerous infectious diseases recorded in the Russian Federation.

The first in this list was hepatitis (primarily C).

The third place was taken, oddly enough, by measles. Although there is a vaccine for it, the incidence of this infection is still growing in our country.

And in third place, according to NEWS.ru, another “unsolved but actively solvable problem” was put, namely HIV.
