Hello dear readers :-)

One of my first cool moisturizers, which almost instantly solved the problem of dry and cracked skin from frost, was with jojoba oil in the composition. It was a very long time ago, then I could not even think that I would be drawn into all this beauty bondage.

I bought the cream at the pharmacy, I didn't remember the company, but for some reason the name of the oil in the composition remained in my memory. At that time it seemed funny to me :-)

Now jojoba oil in skin care cosmetics for me is a guarantee that the product is working. For dry, oily, aging skin and hair. The component is powerful, versatile, with a very rich history that is full of comic moments, confusion, and even drama with a good ending.

Below I noted the most interesting facts about him.

1. Jojoba oil is not oil at all

Chemists refer to it as liquid ether, not oil. There is very little of this in nature.

Oils are unstable, they oxidize and become rancid. A jojoba seed extract (it is more correct to call it "jojoba oil"

) because of its unique chemical structure resembles wax, and it, like any ether, does not oxidize.

2. To spoil jojoba oil - you have to try very hard

Due to the sharp changes in temperature, jojoba oil will not change its properties, only its appearance will change.

In cold weather, it will be something like soft wax. When warm, it becomes liquid. If kept in the sun for a long time, it becomes very viscous and difficult to apply to the skin. But it will not lose its properties.

For jojoba oil, perhaps the simplest storage conditions are opaque containers.

But the quality of the oil is different, it all depends on the way it is obtained by the manufacturer.

3. Before jojoba oil was used in cosmetics, it was used to lubricate parts of cars and military equipment.

Basically, we apply to the skin and hair what served as a lubricant for machines. During World War II in the USA jojoba oil was used for lubricants, slightly less often - for the production of paints. They even lubricated machine guns, because in America it was tight with oil products.

Only in the 70s they carried out serious scientific research and proved the healing properties of jojoba oil, then they began to use it in cosmetics.

4. Jojoba oil was the local currency of the Indians

The Indians of South America and Mexico paid with jojoba oil for weapons, food, paint, tobacco and jewelry. They called it "liquid gold".

Even before serious scientific research was carried out on jojoba oil, it was used by the Indians with might and main: they treated burns, wounds, ulcers, and used them in various rituals.

A good folk recipe: calendula flowers are insisted in jojoba oil for a month at room temperature, for maceration (that is, they "pull out" useful substances by infusion). Calendula, as many of my regular readers know, is very good for sensitive skin

5. Jojoba oil killed the whaling industry

Of course, not in all countries. In Japan, there are still whaling plants, in Iceland - with restrictions.

But if the Americans had not stopped whaling, then there would be no sperm whales on the planet at all.

It's all about spermacet, a substance found in the head of sperm whales. Until now, they have not come to a consensus about the role of the sperm bag in the head of sperm whales: either it helps them to navigate in space, either it is somehow connected with echolocation, or it provides buoyancy. Previously, people mistakenly believed that it contains whale sperm, hence the name.

Why spermaceti in the body of a sperm whale - did not know. But they knew what a person could use it for. Spermaceti was just used in the military industry (lubricated equipment and weapons even before the discovery of jojoba oil; by the way, some weapons experts and engineers still believe that spermaceti as a lubricant was better than jojoba).

Spermaceti was also used for the production of candles, in perfumery, in medicine. Those who were engaged in whaling had hands like aristocrats: upon contact with natural spermacet, small cuts and burns on the hands healed literally before our eyes.

In 1971, the extraction of spermacet was banned, aided by the "Society of Jojoba Witnesses", consisting mainly of doctors. They proved that jojoba oil is almost completely identical in composition to spermaceti, it is the same liquid ether, and for the production of a miracle wax, it is enough to increase the plantations of shrubs in the deserts, rather than destroy whales.

6. Jojoba was mistaken for a Chinese plant, but his homeland is a desert on the border between Mexico and the United States.

The homeland of jojoba is the deserts of Mexico, North and South America. For the first time, scientists came across the bush itself in the Sonoran Desert, on the border between Mexico and the United States (the states of Arizona and California).

But the plant was named Simmondsia chinensis (Chinese Simmond). This is because one famous botanist, through his negligence, mixed Mexican seeds with Chinese ones, and when he began to classify plants, he called jojoba a Chinese symmond.

7. Jojoba oil quickly restores our skin's natural defenses

Our stratum corneum is composed of water and lipids (fat). Lipid-free - skin is dry and may crack. Jojoba oil is very is close to those esters that our sebaceous glands secrete. This is a very important point, because if you use jojoba oil frequently in your skin care routine, your skin will determine that it has “produced” enough lipids and less likely to use the sebaceous glands. Simply put, sebum will be less secreted, and for oily skin this is very important.

Therefore, products with it soften the skin well, restore it and retain moisture, like our natural lipids. And the high content of vitamin E makes the oil almost indispensable for a hot summer. By the way, the same Beauty are often purchased for the summer. Because there is information that jojoba helps to better synthesize vitamin D. And with the norm of this vitamin in our blood, a person lives longer and better, we also talked about this.

8. Jojoba oil is a safe field for beauty experiments

Products for the skin and hair, where it is in the composition, work effectively. But if you are from the category of people who see one advertisement and tricks of marketers, you can make your own natural cosmetics. Jojoba oil can be used as a base oil and is safe. But what essential oils you add to it and in what proportions is at your own risk.

I know for sure that jojoba oil can be safely added to your favorite shampoo or hair conditioner (about 3-5 drops). Personally checked: hair takes longer to get greasy, and you can safely forget about split ends.
