Does vitamin C help with covid and why they fall into a coma

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. It also strengthens the vascular wall. It has anti-inflammatory properties. In case of blood poisoning, vitamin C helps maintain blood pressure and protects against shock.

During an epidemic, it was tempting to use it for severe covid. And now vitamin C was prescribed to seriously ill patients. At first it seemed that there was a sense of it, but so far we still have not figured out how useful it is in terms of survival.

Then they began to find out to what extent vitamin C is useful for people with mild covid. And again it turned out that nothing was clear.

No serious research has been carried out on this topic. No conclusions could be drawn. I'm talking about information as of early November 2020.

There were small studies on critically ill patients. Something there they got better from large amounts of vitamin C. Only for some reason the survival rate did not increase.

All these eccentricities could be continued further, but vitamin C is not a harmless thing. And it can harm not everyone in an obvious way.

With covid, people with type 2 diabetes mellitus are very affected. So, high concentrations of vitamin C in the blood distort the readings of glucometers, which determine the level of sugar in the blood.

Vitamin C causes your pocket blood glucose meters to display high glucose levels. And with covid there is such a trick that patients with type 2 diabetes have to be switched to insulin.

And now we get an interesting situation. When there are many patients, it is difficult to do tests. Instead of laboratory analysis, a simple pocket blood glucose meter is used. He overestimates the indicators, the patient is injected with insulin, and the patient falls into a hypoglycemic coma. For many, it ends very badly.

It turns out that there is no noticeable additional benefit from high amounts of vitamin C, but there can be harm.
