Many people worry about low levels of magnesium in their blood. This happens often, but it usually does not happen on the street around the corner, but in the hospital.
You and I almost always eat enough magnesium in our food. It is enough for us. True, sometimes this magnesium falls out of us. It falls out in two ways:
- through the intestines;
- through the kidneys.
Intestines
All digestive juices normally contain a lot of magnesium. Therefore, if diarrhea suddenly begins, and these juices flow out, then together with them we will lose magnesium.
Saponification
There is still an interesting feature in the stomach associated with the formation of soap.
We already remembered the soap in the intestines when we discussed poor absorption of food. It was about calcium, which binds to fatty acids to make soap. As a result, neither fatty acids nor calcium are absorbed, but leave the intestines in transit.
So, with acute pancreatitis, soap is also obtained. Only the mechanism is slightly different.
The pancreas itself is a rather fatty organ. There is also a lot of fat around the pancreas. This is the fat that keeps our internal organs in limbo.
During acute pancreatitis, the pancreas melts and melts the fat around it. This fat combines with calcium and magnesium. This is how soap is made. The process is called saponification. This is another way to lose magnesium.
Proton pump blockers
And one more reason, and it is also in the stomach. Proton pump blockers reduce the secretion of acid in the stomach and for some reason interfere with the absorption of magnesium.
Alcoholism
Alcoholics who are admitted to the hospital often have low magnesium levels in their blood.
Plus, magnesium decreases in case of kidney disease, taking diuretics and any other conditions when people are specifically sick.
From a low level of magnesium, calcium and potassium are reduced in a trailer, various cramps, tremors and interruptions in the work of the heart appear.
It is clear that all this happens in a disabled person. So don't try to look for magnesium supplements for yourself, but rather go to your doctor again. Magnesium won't just fall off. It’s always something bad.
