Mihrimah, like any young girl, dreamed of pure and beautiful love. But, the sultana was not given the right to choose, and Khyurrem Sultan, pursuing a political plan, marries her daughter to Rustem-Pasha.
The marriage with Rustem burdened the sultana, but at first her mother did not allow her to divorce him, and then Rustem Bayazid's support.
Upon learning that Rustem had betrayed his brother, Mihrimakh attacked the pasha, accusing him of treason:
- For many years I dreamed of getting rid of you, but someone always interfered. You are the chain on my arms, the hump on my back. You thrust your seal like a dagger into my brother's back. I always dreamed of getting rid of you, but there was always someone in the way. But now I'm divorcing you.
Mihrimah went to the ruler's chambers with a request to give permission to divorce Rustem. But the padishah decided that Mihrimah was angry at her husband because of Bayazid, and said that Rustem could not do otherwise, he was following my order. Divorce him, I will not allow you.
Already in her palace, Mihrimakh told the pasha that she would find a way to get rid of him, and henceforth so that he would not approach her a single step and would not dare to touch her even with a finger.
To which Rustem replied:
- And where did you get the idea that I need you, Mihrimah. I just don't care about you! You forgot that I buried my love for you long ago.
Mihrimah was not going to forgive Pasha's betrayal and disregard for herself, therefore, having learned that Bayazid had allowed Atmaja to avenge Mustafa, she helped him with pleasure.
Atmaja has been waiting for an opportunity for a long time and finally the hour of reckoning has come. Atmaja is doing his duty, avenging Mustafa, though at the cost of his life.
Mihrimah got rid of the hump on her back, but also lost the power that Rustem Pasha had.
