I have an old friend Lena, with whom, so to speak, we walk together through life shoulder to shoulder. We try to meet all events in our life together, and sorrows and joys. So my friend's mother died two years ago. She was already old, and lived alone in a kopeck piece. Her daughter, i.e. my friend, constantly visited her, and one can say she was next to her at the moment when the old woman gave her soul to God. Lena's mother was buried. After a while, Lena and her husband began to deal with the apartment, my friend inherited it. And, if before that time they still had the means to pay for the communal apartment in that apartment, now the question arose of what to do next.
I remember how Lena called and consulted with me about the sale of my mother's apartment. We even invited a realtor to evaluate the housing, but after hearing the numbers, we realized that it was somehow a pity to say goodbye to the apartment for a penny. Therefore, it was decided to rent the apartment.
An ad was posted on the Internet, and a young girl soon responded to it. She was going to go to college in our city, and was just looking for an apartment for herself. Lena agreed to rent out the apartment to this girl, and at the appointed time, the future student came to the meeting with her mother. Lena really liked it, both the student and her mother were very pleasant in appearance, polite, clean. They showed their documents, concluded some kind of contract by hand. The girl's mother vouched for her, said that her daughter was a responsible, decent, good housewife. In general, Lena was happy with everything, she handed the keys to the student, and left with peace of mind.
At first, Lena went to the rented apartment once a month to collect the rent and take meter readings. And again, everything seemed normal to her. As we now think, probably, after all, everything was not as normal there as it seemed from the outside.
A year later, Lena was sent for a promotion at work, and now she had to travel often on business trips. The husband was also constantly in his work affairs. Therefore, it was decided that the student could transfer the payment to the card, especially since there was already some confidence in her. Payment for housing was always received on time, so Lena was not particularly worried, but still something was disturbing in her soul, she had not been in her mother's apartment for a long time.
For a whole year, Lena took the readings of the meters of that apartment by phone, and received payment on the card day in and day out. And so the student called and said that she was moving out. Something she got there in her personal life, or got married or decided to move in with a guy. And so he and Lena agreed to meet in the apartment, because it was necessary to accept housing in the appropriate condition and pick up the keys.
And then, according to Lena's stories, she went to hell as soon as she crossed the threshold of the apartment. The first thing that caught her eye was the door to the bathroom, it had to be urgently changed, it was literally falling apart. The bathroom itself was also a nightmare, the mixer was oars on snot, and there was no shower head at all.
The kitchen was absolutely all dirty, the floors were covered with many months old grease, the oven was black in soot, the microwave was in a terrible state, and the refrigerator, with strange stains and turned from white to yellow! Needless to say, the dishes that Lena eventually just threw away without trying to reanimate them.
Added firewood to the fire on the sofa in the hall, which was also simply unrecognizable. It feels like they slept on it in outerwear and outdoor boots. Lena was speechless, and the girl behaved calmly, as if nothing had happened.
The girl left, and at the request of the landlady to pay her the damage, she replied that she had already paid her regularly, and let the cleaning company clean up. Well, Lena had no other way out, it would take too long to rake this mud herself. She paid about five thousand for cleaning, repairs in the bathroom, together with the door, cost twenty, and the sofa safely left for the trash.
So what am I all for? Trust but verify. Lena is now responsible for the tenants in the apartment, and she always comes to them at least once every two months. And she no longer rents her apartment to students.
