Hello dear friends! I am a doctor by profession and vocation. Recently, the company's outstanding tourist-climbers conquer the summit of Mount Elbrus. During the ascent there was an interesting case, which I'll share with you.
For climbing Elbrus group "MChSniki" required a second physician. Familiar invited me to participate in this event. I agreed without hesitation, as long dreamed to visit on Elbrus. The tasks were simple: to be always there with a group and if required to do their job.
Every beginner climber knows that before the conquest of peaks You need to adapt to the altitude. Our first base camp was at a low altitude - 2300 meters above sea level.
At 6:30 there was a general rise and a small charge. At 7:00 am breakfast, after which the entire team was put forward on the nearby cliffs, climbing to hone skills. This went on for exactly one week.
Then the group moved to another base camp at a height of more serious - 4200 masl Here, the air is discharged more (less oxygen). When long-term presence, it may be high-altitude hypoxia and head ache. Many people have experienced this symptom, and I have a little more work. But four days later, all fully adapted and were determined to reach the summit of Mount Elbrus. The hour H.
It was decided to run for 3 am on the western summit of Elbrus. At this time, the weather is less windy, and the emergence of unlikely snowstorm. Dressed in full gear ( "cat" on the shoes, ice ax, a backpack with a first aid kit, radio), a group of 10 people, began its ascent.
Passing "Pastukhov" rock (after 2 hours journey) weather presented a surprise snowstorm began. But the band has been obsessed with the conquest of the summit and we have continued to move up.
Here on the radio signal was received. We spoke with base camp -2. Not far away, on top of the mountain I popped up the other team. Their composition was a boy of 14 years. He lost consciousness, presumably because of the "altitude sickness."
Our leader was distributed is divided into two "Five" (one doctor in each). Since I was more experienced doctor, I have decided that it is better to me to help the child. One group continued to rise, and I was in the other "five" toward the victim.
Due to be sent to the navigator coordinates, could quickly find another team. I immediately made a preliminary diagnosis. The boy had symptoms of the "mountain of hypoxia." To provide urgent medical care, he was put on a stretcher and the group began to descend to the base camp.
In the camp, he was given all necessary medical measures and a helicopter was sent to the hospital. And we had to wait for the return of the other "five". Time and effort to resume the ascent was no more.
SummarizingBefore climbing to a higher altitude, a complete adaptation of the organism to mountain conditions. All of it is different, and especially slow in children. They need more time to get used, otherwise it may result in failure.
P.S. My cherished goal was never to be. Elbrus, I never won. But the further the fate of the boy was able to learn. After the evacuation of the disease regressed and his health gradually recovered. Now he feels healthy.
