Hello! I work as a doctor for 21 years. My name is George O. Sapego. This article will tell you why the food is poorly absorbed why Americans want to go to our regular sugar, and in the intestines get soap.
First, a little about the fat.
Bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine
Bacteria reduce the activity of the bile acids and the fat will be poorly absorbed. There are various reasons for bacterial overgrowth. Sometimes it may even be receiving proton pump blockers, which reduce the amount of acid in the stomach.
Problems with the pancreas
Patient pancreas secretes enough enzymes, which must break down fat. At the bottom a link to my article on chronic pancreatitis.
Report generation bile acids
Liver diseases such as cirrhosis is poorly produced bile. Without it, fat is poorly digested.
carbohydrates
The most common carbohydrate in our diet - a starch, sucrose and lactose. That they suck, you need to split them into simple sugars like glucose.
Carbohydrates are broken down by the enzyme amylase. When the enzyme is missing, carbohydrates enter the large intestine where they are readily fermented by bacteria. So if we are normally not digest carbohydrates, you get bloating and other unpleasant things.
Our body is well adapted to the fact that the microbes in the gut will eat scraps of carbohydrates. Cells lining of the colon, for example, receive energy mainly from fatty acids from carbohydrates which are synthesized for the bacteria.
Reasons for poor absorption of carbohydrates:
- lack of pancreatic enzymes;
- lack of enzymes on the intestinal wall surface (there are different sugars completely cleaved to glucose and fructose);
- damage to the intestinal wall in case of intolerance to gluten or something similar;
- carbohydrate meals that are poorly absorbed (e.g. sorbitol).
Fructose
There's an interesting story with fructose. It is typically added as a sweetener in cooked industrially produced foods. We have more fructose is eaten with honey, and the Americans, for example, instead of sugar everywhere shoved corn syrup, which is made up of a mixture of glucose to fructose.
The problem is that half the people can not properly digest more than 25 grams of fructose. They started bloating and diarrhea.
Since fructose is related another interesting fact: fructose sugar is absorbed into our intestines better than pure fructose. No one knows why this is happening.
From fructose is so many problems that the Americans are considering to replace its syrup of glucose and fructose in the regular sugar. Because damage may be less of regular sugar.
proteins
Proteins begin to be digested in the stomach. There is, for this enzyme pepsin.
It happens that people remove the stomach, but the protein is still absorbed. So this is not a mandatory step of digestion.
The pancreas secretes trypsin and other enzymes that digest protein. After digestion produced amino acids and compounds of two or three pieces. They are absorbed in the small intestine.
Here exactly the same story, that carbohydrates: Problems with absorption occur when the colon wall is sick, or when the pancreas secretes enough enzymes.
Vitamins, macronutrients and micronutrients
They are absorbed mainly in the first half of the small intestine.
This place is particularly vulnerable to the violation of the absorption of calcium.
Calcium is readily binds with fatty acids. Fatty acids are absorbed there. If they were unable to be absorbed, they cling to calcium and get soap. It is clear that on this soap with a whistle flies toward the exit.
With vitamin B12 and bile acids is another story. They are absorbed in a distant part of the small intestine. In the same place, and the violation of their absorption.
If you think that you have a poorly digested food, be sure to consult with your doctor.
