International Students' Day 2016: History and tradition

November 17 in Ukraine marks International Students Day.

The holiday was established by presidential decree in 1999. Its history is linked to the International Student Day.

November 17, 1946 in Prague at the World Congress of students, it was decided to establish the International Students' Day, dedicated to the memory of Czech students-patriots.

Ukrainian students celebrate two holidays. One coincides with the International, the second - Tatiana's Day, which is usually celebrated in honor of the patron saint of students on 25 January.

Uniform tradition of celebrating the Day of students in Ukraine has not yet happened. Each city has its own characteristics and habits of the youth event. Most conscious youth takes a holiday as an opportunity to raise the profile of the role of students and the promotion of education as a whole. Such students conduct conferences and seminars. They organize educational events for schoolchildren, acquaint them with the training features in different faculties of the educational institutions. Most diligent students of management of universities are awarded certificates and prizes.

All the events dedicated to the Day of the students are supported by the Ministry of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sports, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Committee on Education and Science of the Verkhovna Rada Ukraine.
