It threatens men from the age of 25
Singer Pierre Narcisse died yesterday. The 45-year-old artist had kidney failure and gout. There are many questions from readers - what kind of disease is this, is there a way out?
I have patients who are 10 years old gout was diagnosed, but they do not have seizures due to the careful observance of all recommendations.
But let's go in order. And sorry for the long post, I don't think it needs to be split.
What is gout
Gout (salt deposits) - if rude, this is such an extremely painful symptom an excess of uric acid in the body. It is formed in us as a result of metabolism plus when purines enter the body: organic compounds that are contained, for example, in DNA. That is absolutely in any food.
But in some products there are especially a lot of them, for example:
- red meat and especially broths from it (therefore, we eat meat a maximum of 2 times a week, if you have an elevated level of uric acid, and we don’t eat broths at all),
- processed meat products: sausages, sausages, sausages (ideally, we never eat it because of the oncological threat),
- organ meats: liver, kidneys, heart, etc.,
- some fish and seafood: herring, tuna, cod, trout, haddock, sardines, anchovies, mussels, scallops, trout,
- legumes: beans, peas, lentils, etc.,
- chocolate,
- tea and coffee (there are different opinions on this matter, I would still limit it, because they have a lot of purines. Plus, they drink tea and coffee with sweets and syrups, which also worsens the situation),
- mushrooms.
Of non-protein foods, especially contribute to the production of uric acid alcoholic drinks (beer is generally a taboo!), sweetened drinks and juices (a lot of fructose). People with gout need to eat very carefully. fruits and berries, because they can cause a painful attack: uric acid is produced from fructose in large quantities. In addition, fructose, eaten in excess, promotes fatty degeneration of the liver, and this in itself will stimulate the production of uric acid by your own liver.
And what can you eat every day with the threat of gout?
- dairy products,
- vegetables (except sorrel, spinach and legumes),
- eggs,
- lean poultry meat and red meat (no more than 2 times a week and boiled or cooked in a double boiler),
- pasta, rice, potatoes (just consider the calorie content).
How can you get gout?
Men get sick several times more often than women, and the disease can start at the age of 25-35 years. In women, it usually develops after menopause.
Who is at risk?
- Who eats too much food rich in purines (see. above). That is why gout is called the "disease of kings".
- People with coronary heart disease (CHD), high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome, chronic renal failure, certain blood diseases, psoriasis.
- Taking certain drugs on a regular basis, such as: diuretics, cyclosporins (immunosuppressants for organ transplants), allopurinol (this is a drug that is prescribed for high uric acid, and it promotes the formation of stones), as well as taking aspirin 2 g per day.
- People with genetic characteristics - when there are not enough enzymes that break down uric acid or the protein that carries it.
How does gout generally manifest itself?
It can be confused with rheumatic arthritis - swollen, painful joints, especially in the legs. In general, gout translates as "foot in a trap". The skin over the affected joint turns red and becomes smooth.
In the developed state, tophi are formed - nodules of white or yellow color with a crumbly, cheesy content. They are even on the ears, not just over the joints.
But long before the external manifestations, the first attacks of excruciating pain appear. They happen at night or in the morning and pass during the day. May be accompanied by fever. People think they are cured, but they are not. You need to see a doctor urgently.
