During our lives, we have to move a lot on different modes of transport. Personal car, bus, trolleybus, plane. But the train is considered the golden mean. First of all, the movement on it wins at the price. Well, besides it is comfort and good speed. Especially when you need to go somewhere very far. Great demand for trains in the summer when people go on vacation.
Today I want to tell you a story that can happen to each of us. And it happened on the train. Two sisters Anya and Olya went on vacation. More precisely, Olya went on vacation, and Anya, her younger sister, was asked to take her parents with her. It’s more fun together, besides, a fifteen-year-old girl has practically never been anywhere. She liked the trip since packing her bags!
To ride in comfort, Olya bought two lower shelves in the compartment. The road was quite long. There was another girl on one of the top shelves, and the fourth place was empty. And now, imagine what romance: the sound of wheels, new people with their own lives, their own history, food in foil that my mother cooked, and outside the window fast-running trees, ponds. It would seem that nothing can overshadow the journey, but, unfortunately, everything turned out to be wrong. At one of the stops, an elderly woman entered the compartment. If Olya could only imagine what kind of fellow traveler she would come across, she would definitely postpone the trip to another time.
So, at the next stop, an old woman entered the compartment, stepped on Olya's foot, sat down on one of the lower shelves, and began to fumble in her bags. With all her appearance, she made it clear that she would not climb onto her top shelf. She did not ask, did not persuade, but simply gave the girls an ultimatum, which consisted in the fact that she was obliged to give way. She began to put pressure on pity, to lament about age, to appeal to fellow travelers to conscience. But Olya specially bought places below, and she was not going to retreat.
The old woman did not expect to be refused. Probably something like this had never happened to her before. She decided to go and complain to the train conductor, and she did. The conductor came into the compartment and began to persuade the girls to exchange with an older woman. The old woman agreed with her, but Olya did not give up in any way. She offered the conductor, since she felt so sorry for the woman, to change places with her herself. A real scandal erupted. It's good that the head of the train intervened in the situation. He suggested that his grandmother sit on one of the free shelves a little further away from the place bought by the old woman. The problem was solved and everyone was satisfied.
But Olya still had an unpleasant aftertaste in her soul. Of course, she always gives way to the old people on the bus, helps to cross the road, the bags are heavy to carry, but this is a completely different matter. Why should she give away her paid place, and lose her comfort. While the cunning granny specially bought the top shelf to be cheaper, and now she wants to take a place that is more expensive and more convenient for her!
Railway workers say that, in principle, passengers can exchange their seats, but only by mutual agreement. So just a call to conscience is not enough. The same applies to places for luggage. The only place in the compartment that is shared is a table for eating.
