Each of us has our own advantages and disadvantages of the figure. How to emphasize the first and hide the second? 8 life hacks from a stylist will help

The art of slimming is about making the most of your strengths and hiding those features of your figure that we find least attractive. Stylist Tatiana Schukina (@ tania_sh4ukina) explained how to do it.

How can we show our merits:

  • open the area that we consider beautiful;
  • to emphasize with clothes that beautiful part that we cannot wear open;
  • place the accent in the area that we like.

When we deal with deficiencies, we always take a holistic approach. Our task is to hide what we don't like and to turn our attention to something else. We choose the most laconic things for the area that we want to hide, and place the accent further away from it. For example, a massive necklace will take all the attention and distract from the bottom of the figure. If we want to hide the hips, then this is a good technique, complete with laconic trousers or a skirt.

It is very important not only to criticize yourself, but also to see your merits. When we easily find dignity in our appearance, we just as easily find clothes that adorn us. And any correction consists in competently transferring attention to what we ourselves love. Let's consider what are the ways of body shaping.

1. Working with verticals

This is one of the most famous and working techniques. We use it when we want to look taller, slimmer, lengthen our legs or stretch out some area. Monochrome, V-notch, vertical lines (row buttons, unbuttoned jackets, color verticals, drawing), trousers to the floor, high waistline, heels.

2. Working with contours

It is the horizontal lines that will help to enlarge a certain area or, in general, add volume to the figure. Where horizontals go: Wide horizontal stripes, pockets, hem, color blocks, wide collars and sleeves. The horizontal lines help balance the figure. For example, if we have wide shoulders and we want to balance them, we can add volume to the hip area using patch pockets. In this case, the pockets will act as a horizontal extension of the hip line and thus balance the wide shoulder line.

3. Approximation

This technique is based on our perception of color. Light warm shades seem closer and more to us. And such things visually increase our figure. By wearing yellow trousers, we visually add volume and draw attention to the lower part of the figure, while an orange sweater brings emphasis to the upper part.

4. Distancing

This technique is also based on our perception of color. Dark cold shades seem to us farther and smaller, so the choice of such clothes visually reduces the figure. For example, choosing a monochrome set in a blue shade, we easily get a slim effect.

5. Shifting attention

Many women succumb to the temptation to simply hide those extra pounds under shapeless, baggy clothes. And they make two mistakes at once. They add more pounds to themselves and hide all their advantages. It is very important to balance the disadvantages with your merits and shift your attention to them. For example, if we want to divert attention from the abdomen and hips, then we will open thin areas (neck, wrists, ankles), and place accents away from our problem areas (a deep neckline accentuates a beautiful neckline, and jewelry on the neck and long earrings will draw attention to the face and neck).

6. Accentuation

With an accent, we create a focus of attention. What we want to be seen first of all when looking at us. Graceful neck, beautiful back, thin waist, slender legs, etc. We may have many advantages, but for each particular image we choose one thing. We can accentuate our legs by wearing colorful mini tights and support them with a colorful bag. This will direct all our attention to the legs. And you can highlight sophisticated ankles by wearing shoes and thin socks. In itself, this is unusual and draws attention to itself. You can also emphasize your merits with the help of a print, for example, pied-de-bul, aka "goose feet", which is guaranteed not to leave you unattended.

7. Demonstration

One of the easiest correction methods is to showcase the part of the body that you like. We open those zones that we like and which are permissible to open. And if this is the part that we cannot wear openly, then we emphasize it with clothes. We can choose form-fitting materials for this area, or we can accentuate it by adding accessories or choosing clothes with decor in this area.

8. Maximizing

This technique works on the principle of contrast: when there are objects next to them that are contrasting in size, the big one next to the small one seems even larger and vice versa. You can use massive watches, bracelets to emphasize fragile wrists. Boots with a wide bootleg to visually make the legs look thinner and slimmer. Against the background of huge bags, the figure will seem more miniature.
