Scientists have named new unusual symptoms of COVID-19. They disturb a person at night and may indicate infection with the Omicron strain. What are these signs?

While Ukraine is gradually emerging from the red quarantine zone, a new wave of coronavirus swept the whole world. In Europe, many countries are closing for a holiday lockdown. Italy has already banned public celebrations of the New Year, followed by Spain and Germany, which are breaking records for morbidity. The new Omicron covid strain is to blame for this. It spreads with incredible speed and often appears atypical, so it is quite difficult to "catch" it in the early stages of the disease. Recently, scientists have discovered another unusual symptoms of Omicron.

What is the difference between the Omicron strain

In general, the Omicron coronavirus strain is less hazardous to health than the aggressive Delta. Scientists from South Africa recently concluded that it causes 80% fewer hospitalizations and 90% lower risk of severe illness. Nevertheless, this strain still alarms doctors. It is extremely contagious and escapes the immune response well. If Omicron combines with another COVID-19 mutation, he could become much more aggressive and more dangerous than Delta.

Now this strain is being studied very carefully, and every day brings new surprises to scientists. So, it has already been proven that with Omicron, a person often does not lose his sense of smell and the ability to distinguish between tastes (and these, recall, are the main "indicative" symptoms of previous strains of covid). Also, with Omicron, there may not be a high temperature and extensive damage to the lungs: according to the latest data, this strain infects the bronchi much more often.

Atypical symptoms of Omicron

Not so long ago, we wrote about one atypical symptom that may indicate that you are sick with Omicron. This is the so-called Brain fog(feeling of confusion, forgetfulness, confusion). This condition is familiar to people who have pressure surges: usually this is a signal that the pressure has dropped significantly. However, those who have no problems with blood pressure should be wary. If such a state is "frequent" to visit you, this is a wake-up call.

Just the other day, scientists from the British National Health Service named two more symptoms that are found in patients with Omicron. The first of these is sleep paralysis (in medicine it is called cataplexy of awakening). This condition occurs when falling asleep or waking up and is characterized by complete or partial muscle paralysis. At this time, a person cannot move, often even cannot open his eyes. The episode lasts from a few seconds to a minute and passes on its own. Getting out of sleep paralysis is usually helped by touch or sound.

The second symptom is excessive sweating during sleep, which is not associated with an increase and subsequent decrease in temperature. People go to bed without fever, and wake up wet and covered in sweat. The condition is so common that South African therapist Amir Khan has already called the National Service health care in Britain to include increased sweating in the official list of symptoms that can be used to determine Omicron infection.
