28 of October our country celebrates Day of liberation of Ukraine from fascist invaders. This year will be the 77th anniversary of the holiday. This date is not marked with a public holiday. However, it is customary throughout the country to lay flowers at the monuments to the soldiers who died in World War II, and to honor the surviving veterans and people who survived the horrors of the Nazi occupation.

The Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be a day off
One of the most important Orthodox holidays of the fall is celebrated in October - Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos. This is a holiday "in number" - that is, every year it falls on the same date, October 14. According to the beliefs of Christians, on this day in 910, in one of the temples of Constantinople, the Mother of God appeared to the holy fool Andrew together with the angels and saints. She covered all the believers with her omophorion (headdress) and prayed with them. The city at that moment was under siege from the Saracens and could no longer defend itself. Residents were preparing for a brutal reprisal. However, after the appearance of the Virgin, the Saracens miraculously lifted the siege and retreated.
Our ancestors celebrated the holiday of the Intercession long before Christianity. This day was popularly considered the border between autumn and winter. There was even a saying: on Pokrov it is autumn before lunchtime, and winter after lunch. Therefore, before that day, it was necessary to complete the harvest, and the onset of the holiday marked the wedding season. Young girls asked older married women to cover their heads with a veil (hence the "cover") so that they would definitely find their destiny. Since ancient times it was believed that get married that day or two weeks after (from October 14 to 28) - it means living a happy life with your husband in abundance and abundance.

Another important event of the year will come at the end of October: Ukraine is switching to winter time. It will happen on the last day of the month October 31 at 4 am.
