The WHO has awarded the "option of interest" status to the "Mu" strain of coronavirus. How dangerous he is - the opinion of the famous doctor Ekaterina Amosova
The second group is VOI (Variant of interest). Until recently, it also included only 4 strains. This: "This", "Iota"Kappa, Lambda. This fall, WHO referred to this company and the strain "Mu", which was discovered in the winter in Colombia.
Why is this strain only now sparking interest? Therapist, cardiologist Ekaterina Amosova named several reasons.
- "Strain" Mu "has several compounds of mutations of strains" Delta "and" Beta ". Both, most notably Beta, are known for their immune escapes compared to other variants.
- The greatest resistance (immunity) to antibodies of the blood serum of the vaccinated in comparison with other strains.
In simple words, the "Mu" strain can easily slip through the "traps" that our immunity, obtained after an illness or vaccination, suits it.
Despite this superpower, "Mu" is not spreading around the world as rapidly as, for example, "Delta". This strain, according to Ekaterina Amosova, has already been recorded in 40 countries. But his "presence" there is scanty. For example, in the United States, the incidence of the Mu strain is only 0.1% of all cases. In 90% there is "Delta".
Why hasn't a strain with such a strong immune escape still pushed aside the same Delta? According to Ekaterina Amosova, due to the fact that the Delta strain is more contagious. Therefore, the likelihood that "Mu" will remain in the second group of less dangerous strains of coronavirus is quite high, the expert sums up. So far, you definitely shouldn't be afraid of him.
