In the photographs, already well-grown girls (Zakhara is now 16, and Shilo is 15) pose for their mother while reading books. Zakhara has a novel by Toni Morrison "The Bluest Eyes": a tragic story about a dark-skinned girl who grows up in the American backwoods and suffers constant humiliation because of her skin color.
