The average birth weight of a child is 3.5 kg. But there are heroes who weigh 2 times more. How did they manage to be born? Read in our selection
The birth of a large baby was previously considered a happy omen. “Bogatyr”, they talked about big newborns, and prophesied good health for them. However, there are children whose "heroic" inclinations boggle the imagination. They are born with the height and weight of one-year-old babies. Unfortunately, this is not always good for the mother and the child himself. Macrosomia (large fruit) can talk about diseases and genetic problems. The kids from our selection are surprisingly lucky: these real giants were born completely healthy.
Jaslyn (weight 6.1)
Jaslyn from Germany / open sources
On July 26, 2013, a giant baby was born in Leipzig (Germany). With a height of 57 cm, the weight of the newborn girl was 6.1 kg. At the same time, the mother gave birth to a daughter naturally, although usually in such cases, doctors resort to caesarean section. “We decided to try natural childbirth because for a baby of this size, taking into account the mother's overweight a caesarean section was associated with a significant risk, ”said Professor Hotlger Stefan, who led the woman during time of delivery.
As it turned out, my mother suffered undiagnosed during pregnancy gestational diabetes, because of which she herself rapidly gained weight, and which also affected the weight of the child. However, the birth, despite all fears, went well.
Asher Stewardson (weight 6.3 kg)
Asher Stewardson from Iowa / open sources
Jaslyn isn't the only giant baby to be born through natural childbirth. A year earlier, in January 2012 in the US state of Iowa, Kendall Stewardson herself gave birth to a boy weighing 6.3 kg. According to my mother, childbirth was incredibly difficult. However, she deliberately ended up from a cesarean section and even from epidural anesthesia. “We just wanted to avoid unnecessary procedures,” Kendall said on the Good Morning America TV show.
The contractions lasted 6 hours, but the birth itself passed very quickly: in just six attempts, Asher managed to be born. It is noteworthy that the first child, Kendall, who was born 15 months earlier, was also not a "baby" and weighed 5.5 kg during childbirth.
Nandini (6.8 kg)
Nandini's daughter from India / open sources
In May 2016, another extremely large baby appeared in the south of India. Her birth weight was 6.8 kg. Nandini (this is the name of the girl's mother) did not expect that her daughter would be a real hero. This is the girl's first child, so the extremely large belly and rapid weight gain during pregnancy did not alert the expectant mother.
The baby was born with the help of cesarean sowing, and the doctors at first suspected problems with sugar in the baby's ditch. One, according to the results of examinations, turned out that the girl was completely healthy. “This is a real miracle,” said Dr. Purnima Manu, who delivered the baby to Nandini.

Harper Buckley from New York / open sources
On March 12, 2019, an American from New York State gave birth to an almost seven-kilogram baby. Her daughter Harper was born with parameters 59 cm (height) and 6.9 cm (weight). Caesarean section was performed simultaneously by three doctors. Later, experts admitted that this is the largest newborn baby they have met in their entire practice. Harper's mom, Joy Buckley, in her comments to the media, compared childbirth to feeling "like you were run over by two trucks."
The baby was born healthy, but because of the non-standard size, she was closely watched in the clinic for several days. The girl was constantly measured the level of sugar and oxygen in the blood, listened to the heartbeat and underwent a comprehensive examination of the internal organs.

King size for a royal family: this was the headline that appeared in many English media in April 2013. However, they were not talking about the British crown, but about the baby George King, who was born with a weight of 7 kg. At the same time, neither mom nor dad George was large in size. The baby's mother, Jade, recalls that during childbirth she experienced a lot of discomfort and even panic. After the head appeared, the child got stuck: large shoulders did not let him go further. The entire medical staff of the clinic (more than 20 health workers) worked hard to help the child be born.

Among the largest children of the planet, there is also a Ukrainian hero. Nikolay Dyadko was born in January 2018 in Zaporozhye with a weight of 7.09 kg. He became the first boy in the large Dyadko family, which at that time was already raising seven daughters. The boy was born by cesarean section. Although some of his sisters were also not small (5.4 and 6.45 kg), his mother was able to give birth to them naturally. However, in the case of Nikolai, Natalya felt bad in the last months of pregnancy. Therefore, the doctors, taking into account the age of the mother and the weight of the fetus, decided not to put the lives of both at risk. Despite the medical concerns, the child was born completely healthy.

In September 2007, a girl weighing 7.75 kg was born in Siberia. The baby was named Hope. She became the 11th child of Tatyana Kharina. Moreover, according to a mother with many children, her next baby was always more in weight than the previous one. In the hospital in Barnaul, where the birth took place, they were shocked by the size of the child: doctors say that there was no such newborn in the entire history of the Altai Territory. The girl was immediately taken under observation, although her mother was sure that there was no pathology in the size of the baby.
