I have been thinking about this patient for several weeks now. She came to my clinic at Moscow State University, a pleasant, relatively young, mathematics teacher, two children.
Until the spring of last year, she almost did not suffer from anything: in her medical record there were only marks about the annual medical examination, which are mandatory for teachers.
And in March 2020, she was among the first in our country got sick with coronavirus. Was in the hospital.
Then there was still no understanding of how to effectively treat covid, and in her scheme there was everything that seemed more or less suitable: 3 types of antibiotics, and a remedy for malaria, and various antivirals.
Doctors tried to save her life, literally caught a black cat in a dark room.
And a miracle happened - the patient survived.
But after a couple of months, she began to headache.
How do people act in such situations? Analgin, Panadol, Citramon ...
But the pain grew, and the pills did not help.
I had to go to the hospital again.
Found a brain tumor.
The world collapsed overnight, one thought in my head - the children were left without a mother.
But then the incomprehensible began.
What was mistaken for a tumor turned out to be large in volume demyelinating process. What is this beast? Imagine wires that are in a rubber sheath. Likewise, wires are protected from environmental influences, and the environment is protected from wires, that is, from current.
So our nerve trunks are protected from adjacent tissues and fluids by the myelin sheath, and this is the most important condition for the healthy functioning of the nervous system and the whole organism.
So this poor woman most of the brain was left without this very protective film. Moreover, it is obvious that before the covid, everything was in order with her nervous system.
One can, of course, assume that this is the result of the effects of drugs, which they fed her quite chaotically.
But even now, patients who have recovered from coronavirus and have certainly received other medications, face in the postcovid with symptoms characteristic of demyelinating diseasesth - numbness of the limbs, tingling, goose bumps and other, as doctors say, paresthesias. That is, there is all the evidence that both the brain and the nervous system are affected.
Of course, my patient the most dire consequencesbut it doesn't make it easier for the rest.
She came to me for help in losing weight.
In the year since covid, this sweet lady gained weight sharply. Tens of kilograms. Frenzied stress, increased anxiety, and an inflammatory reaction of a systemic nature are to blame for this.
I did everything that depends on me - I consulted, prescribed some medications. I am sure that we will deal with the weight.
But what to do with affected nervous system, headaches, general apathy? How to restore the meninges? How to return a woman to her former life?
I do not know.
But I think that if she had even the slightest chance to prevent the disease then, in the spring of 2020, she would have used it.
