I'll tell you about the reasons for frequent running to the toilet at night and deal with the confusion in terminology.

If you remember ours with you disputes about hypertensive crisis, then with nocturia a similar story.

If a person gets up at night more than once to urinate, the Americans call it nocturia.

In the domestic or generally in the European version, nocturia is called the predominance of the nighttime urine volume over the daytime. Normally, about 80% of urine is filtered during the day.

Americans consider it overkill if the nighttime urine volume is more than 30% of the daily.

There are many different interesting reasons in the American version of nocturia, so we will mainly analyze it.

Approximately 40% of adults use the toilet more than once at night. That is, once is normal. Moreover, before and after each such time, a person had to sleep. That is, the morning trip to the toilet does not count, because they do not sleep after it.

If a person has mild incontinence and urinary leakage at night, then this is not called nocturia, because he does not run anywhere.

Women

In addition to frequent running to the toilet at night, most women will have some other unpleasant symptoms from the bladder. In pregnant women, nocturia disappears within three months after childbirth.

In fact, you don't need to have kidney problems to go to the toilet at night. To this predispose:

  • obesity;
  • high blood pressure;
  • diabetes;
  • restless legs syndrome;
  • sleep apnea;
  • heartburn.

Men

These are usually older men, and the adenoma of the prostate gland keeps the palm.

Nerves still have a bad influence on this matter. Anxiety and depression lead to nocturia, and it leads to them.

Just as with sleep apnea, nocturia interferes with working during the day, because the person will be lethargic and sleepy.

In general, nocturia rests on three pillars:

  1. small bladder;
  2. a large volume of night urine;
  3. sleep disorders.

Small bubble

He may not be very small, but harmful. As soon as he is slightly full, and he already makes him run to the toilet. Sometimes it's the prostate, and sometimes the cystitis.

Large volume of night urine

There are complex mechanisms associated with hormones, but more often it is simply a matter of edema accumulated during the day, which disappears at night in the form of excess urine.

Sleep disturbances

If something wakes you up, then the bladder will pick up the baton and will not allow you to fall asleep until you run to the toilet. Someone has a shallow sleep due to restless legs, someone stops breathing against the background of snoring, and they wake up from a lack of oxygen.

Plus, the common causes for these nighttime awakenings can actually increase the amount of urine through certain hormones. Remember the story of arrhythmia, which cleverly stretches the heart and makes you run to the toilet? So with night awakenings, the same hormonal focus is triggered.

Or is everything simpler

If you drink more than 40 milliliters of fluid per kilogram of your body weight per day, then you will most likely have to run to the toilet at night.

Or someone takes a diuretic before bed.
