Major types of bone cancer
1. Osteosarcoma
Also called osteosarcoma. In fact, it is the most common type of bone cancer and usually starts in the bone cells of the arms and legs. Osteosarcoma occurs most often in people between the ages of 10 and 30, more often in men than in women.
2. Chondrosarcoma
Malignant formations begin to form in the cartilage cells. It has been established that chondrosarcoma is the second most common form of bone cancer. It is rare in a person under the age of 20.
3. Ewing's tumor
Also known as Ewing's sarcoma, it usually develops in the long bones, but can develop in other tissues and even muscles. This type is the third most common primary bone cancer. Ewing's sarcoma affects children and adolescents.
4. Fibrosarcoma
This tumor usually forms in the soft tissues around bones, such as tendons, ligaments, and fat or muscle. Fibrosarcomas most commonly affect the arms, legs, and jaws of adults.
5. Osteoblastoclastoma
Or a giant cell tumor has two different forms: benign and malignant. Osteoblastoclastoma often develops in the bones of the arms or legs in young and middle-aged adults. This type of cancer rarely spreads to other areas of the human body.
6. Hondoma
This type of tumor affects the bones of the spine and the base of the skull. It most often develops in adults around the age of 30 and older, mainly in men. Hondoma grows slowly with a low risk of spreading to various parts of the body. The tumor can start growing again if not removed completely during surgery and eventually spread to the lungs and liver.
Bone Cancer Symptoms
1. Pain
The most common symptom in patients with bone cancer is pain at the site of the lesion. At first, the pain is intermittent, it can intensify at night or during movement. As the cancer spreads, the pain becomes constant and unbearable.
2. Edema
Swelling in the area of pain may appear only after a few weeks. There may be swelling or induration in the area of the cancer. Swelling in the bones of the neck can lead to a lump in the back of the throat, which makes it difficult to swallow and breathe.
3. Fractures
A malignant mass weakens the bone in which it develops. However, in most cases, bones do not break.
4. Other symptoms
A tumor in the bones of the spine, for example, can press on nerves, which usually leads to numbness and weakness. Bone cancer can also lead to weight loss and fatigue. If the cancer spreads to internal organs, other symptoms, such as breathing problems, may appear.
