Today is World Milk Day. Until what age can you drink it without harm to your health? When is the best time to eat dairy products for health benefits? The nutritionist answered these and other questions.

"Drink, children, milk, you will be healthy!" - sung in a famous children's song. And today, on World Day milk, this phrase is especially remembered. Is it true? Our expert knows the answer to this question - Alesya Byvalkevich, nutritionist, author of the book "Secrets of Baby Nutrition", psychosomatologist, head of the "ProstoZdorov BY" project.
  1. Is it good to drink milk?

For adults, no. Moreover, it is even harmful. The fact is that it contains casein (a complex protein formed when milk is curdled). It is absorbed rather poorly at any age. But the older a person gets, the more difficult it becomes. So if an adult constantly drinks pure milk, then various intestinal dysfunctions are guaranteed to you. Milk also contains milk sugar, which requires the enzyme lactase to break down. By about six years old, its number is reduced to almost zero, and

lactase deficiency, which in early childhood is considered a disease, becomes a normal physiological condition. That is, starting from elementary school age, we cannot absorb milk sugar. Unsplit, it causes, for example, excessive flatulence and a sharp loosening of the stool. And when we have diarrhea, basic salts are washed out from the body, which, among other things, are needed for the normal functioning of the choroid. Also, the body loses sodium, which is necessary for the heart. So people who regularly drink pure milk may suffer from the cardiovascular system. They may also develop symptoms of osteochondrosis - a disease caused by a lack of calcium, as well as a violation of its assimilation. On the one hand, milk contains this trace element. On the other hand, in order for it to be assimilated, phosphorus is needed. And the ratio of phosphorus to calcium in milk is two to one. At these rates, the absorption of calcium from milk can be impaired. In addition, when unprocessed milk causes fermentation (oxidation), the body introduces its own calcium into the digestion process to alkalize it.

2. Are dairy products and dishes made from them also harmful?

Not. Lactic acid bacteria and heat treatment partially break down milk sugar and change the protein formula. So we can safely eat yogurt, kefir, pancakes, cereals, etc. But it is important that the porridge is boiled in milk (it must be diluted with water one to one), and not so that it is boiled in water, and then milk is added there.

3. At what age can they be given to children?

From year to year, with the exception of breast milk and adapted milk formulas. Hard cheese we introduce into the diet of a child from 1.5 years. The fact is that under a microscope the casein molecule resembles a burdock. It is "prickly" and scratches the walls of the small intestine. This can lead to microbleeding. They are minimal (for example, you will not see blood in the stool), but in such conditions, the child may develop anemia and the immune system may fall. Indeed, it is in the small intestine that the body's immune background is formed.

4. Are there any time limits for consuming milk?

Yes, there are. For example, cottage cheese and hard cheese can only be eaten until 15:00. After this time, it is difficult for the body to assimilate the protein contained in them. Kefir, yogurt and other fermented milk products should not be consumed before breakfast, and then, throughout the day - please. They speed up the motility of the small intestine, and it quickly removes waste products into the large intestine, which means it is easier for it to deal with its main duty - to create the body's immune background. You need to eat at least 200 mg of fermented milk products per day (with the exception of cottage cheese, its daily rate for an adult [1] person is 60 g).
