The sun raises our spirits, helps to develop the vital vitamin D3, keeps us in good shape. But everything has a downside: ultraviolet rays, at best, accelerate skin aging and the appearance of pigmentation, at worst - the development of melanoma.

The cosmetologist suggested how not to age prematurely with the help of sunscreen and to stay with beautiful skin for a long time

To avoid all the terrible that the sun can give us, people have created perhaps the most useful cosmetic of all - sunscreen (with SPF filter). Every girl who is at least a little interested in self-care knows the importance of SPF filters. But there are still many questions for them.

For example, why did I smear myself with sunscreen on the beach, but still get sunburned? How much product do you need to apply on the face and body? Which SPF should you buy?

I will list the main recommendations for the use and choice of a cream with an SPF filter, which at one time gave my colleague Tiina Orasmäe-Meder, a professional cosmetologist, whom I quote from all world experts in aesthetic medicine.

1. Beach and city tan make a big difference

For urban tanning, you need a cream with a chemical filter, for a beach tan, it will do with a physical filter.

The chemical filter absorbs Sun rays, physical (with titanium dioxide in the composition) - reflects sun rays, but not absorbed into the skin, you will walk whitish.

A cream with a chemical filter can be combined with skin care cosmetics, it is enough for 2 hours under the sun, then it is recommended to reapply it to the skin. Modern sunscreens combine both types of filters.

2. Spare no sunscreen on the beach

For one face alone, 5-7 ml of sunscreen is required to protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation. Imagine how much it takes for the body.

For one trip, sunbathing on the beach requires 50 ml. In addition, creams with a physical filter (titanium dioxide in the composition) in chlorinated water will wash off immediately, in sea water - after two or three swims.

If you shake off the sand adhering to your skin, you will also "shake off" the SPF filters. This is why many are surprised that she seemed to be smeared with sunscreen, but still got burned on the beach..

3. The higher the SPF number, the more sun protection

Pay attention to the label, which indicates the SPF number of 10, 15, 30, 50, etc.? So, according to these numbers, the percentage of skin protection is calculated. According to the following formula:

Skin protection percentage = 100% - (1 / SPF) * 100%

Let's give some examples of simple arithmetic.
For SPF 15, the percentage of skin protection = 100% - (1/15) * 100% = 100% - 0.067 * 100% = 93.3%
For SPF 50, the percentage of skin protection = 100% - (1/50) * 100% = 100% - 0.02 * 100% = 98%

As you can see, the percentage of skin protection for a cream with an SPF filter of 50 is higher than that of 15. But keep in mind that we are talking about protection from those sun rays, because of which we burn, the skin turns red and we are in pain. These are type B rays (UVB is indicated on the label). They are less hazardous than type A beams.

My recommendation: La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50+ invisible fluid. I love it for three reasons: the first is a proven brand, the second is high protection, here the SPF is above 50, the third is applied under makeup and nothing "floats".

4. Sunburn will even be with sunscreen if there is no UVA protection

Above, I mentioned UVB rays. Because of them, our skin burns, flakes and wrinkles appear.

But UVA rays are the most dangerous: they penetrate into the deep layers of the skin and make their own changes in our body at the cellular level. The good news is that UVA rays guarantee a tan. The bad news is that they increase the risk of skin cancer.

UVA protection is labeled as follows: in European creams - PDD (not less than 10), in Asian creams - PA (not less than "3 pluses"), in British - stars (not less than two stars).

As you can imagine, Type A sun protection creams prevent sunburn. But it will provide protection from a terrible disease. But keep in mind: melanoma has several reasons for its formation, the sun's rays only increase the risk of such a terrible disease.

Hopefully you now know what to look out for before buying sunscreen. If it was helpful - please put a "thumbs up" in the article.

Next time I will take a closer look at several SPF creams for different occasions: universal (although in the article above I have already mentioned), inexpensive beach and city creams, and with which you can fix your makeup (those. we do not apply UNDER makeup, but ON it).
