For what reasons do people not want to have pets? The opinion of psychologists

Surprisingly, scientists have long been interested in such a topic as the role of domestic animals in human life. According to the study, humans tamed the wolf about 27 thousand years ago. And the animal eventually became domesticated, evolving into a dog. And in many cultures such a custom has appeared - to have pets.

And, despite the fact that pets need constant care, people need them no less. The point here is not even in practical use, but in the fact that animals have become friends for us. Yes, a dog can guard a house, but it becomes a loyal friend who can just lie down next to us. And cats, well, they just make the apartment more comfortable, you stroke them, and it becomes somehow calm. But not every person goes to get a pet. Why is this happening?

For what reasons do people not want to have pets? The opinion of psychologists

First of all, getting a pet is a big responsibility. But, even if a person is not afraid of this, but he does not want to take someone fluffy into the house, he has his own reasons. Discarding the entire practical part of the question, you can find the psychological. So, just psychologists have their own opinion why people do not want to have pets.

Reasons Why People Dislike or Are Indifferent to Pets

Mirror reflection

Have you heard it said that pets are very similar to their owners? So, this is true, and there is no magic here! The fact is that animals that live with us for a long time begin to behave in the same way as we do, as if mirroring our behavior and even character traits. They start to copy us. And many people really don't like it. Not everyone is ready to look at themselves from the outside, admitting their own shortcomings and weaknesses. If the owner likes to spend all day in bed, the pet will do so too. And, if a person often visits the kitchen, then the animal will repeat after him.

Disgust

Many of our adult problems stem from childhood. For example, if the parents did not allow the child to behave like other children, did not indulge his instincts and desires, then he may grow up disgusted. For example, my mother did not allow petting street cats and dogs; over time, a person will have some kind of disgust towards all animals. They cannot be crystal clear, and therefore there is a feeling of disgust.

Painful experience

Many people have painful experiences. Here, for example, someone had animals in childhood, and the care of them was entrusted entirely to the child, but this did not suit him. Or there was a very bitter experience when the animal got sick, died, ran away. A person does not want to feel all this pain again, so he does not dare to find a furry friend.

What role do pets play in human life?

But nevertheless, pets are very necessary for a person, they seem to save from loneliness, but more often they are still turned on by family people. If the family has children, then a pet can help develop responsibility and empathy in them. And contact with animals is like a vaccination against a number of diseases.

It is not yet definitively proven by science that animals can influence our well-being. But sometimes it is enough just 5 minutes of time to spend next to a dog or a cat, well, or to look at the fish in the aquarium, and all the anxiety simply disappears. A walk with a pet can generally be equated with an active lifestyle.

And it is unlikely that scientists will ever come to a consensus regarding the benefits of animals for humans. But psychologists are sure that it exists. After all, it is impossible to measure and investigate such things as love and friendship! Namely, they connect us with pets!
