It turns out that just 90 minutes of exercise per week is enough to prolong life.
We continue to study Bestseller by Harvard Professor of Evolutionary Biology Daniela E. Lieberman Exercised.
If you have not been involved in sports since early childhood, this does not mean that all is lost.
Of course, I would like to think that after retirement we deserve the right to just lie on the couch. Alas, nature requires the opposite.
You need to accustom yourself to the idea that with age you need to become more physically active. There are physiological prerequisites for this - for example, age-related sarcopenia (muscle destruction). Otherwise, just lose your mobility, turn into a wreck.
But there is good news - not so much sports are needed.
Old people, along with wisdom, acquire such a property as the fragility of the body. And we must try to avoid it with all our might. How? Proper nutrition (lots of protein) and physical activity.
At the same time, the effect of exercise (in the area of longevity) is about the same as that of those who have been involved in sports since their youth.
Is there a relationship between life expectancy and physical activity?
The author of the book draws on classic research conducted by his colleagues at Harvard. They studied physical activity and other lifestyle characteristics of 16,936 Harvard graduates in age 35 to 74 for the relationship with all-cause mortality and the effect on duration life.
For example, on this is and subsequent by the same authors.
They proved that mortality decreases with increasing amount of physical activity. The authors mention walking, climbing stairs and playing sports. Moreover, the greatest effect (reduction in mortality by 20 percent) is observed with physical activity at about 90 minutes of exercise per week. Further, the efficiency decreases. For example, to remove another 20 percent, you need to add at least 5.5 hours to this hour and a half.
Alas, it is impossible to achieve immortality. Further, the benefits grow very slowly.
