Paid parental leave is the trend of the 21st century. And only now scientists have decided to find out exactly how the opportunity to be at home with a child affects the speed and quality indicators of the recovery of young mothers.

Within the framework of research scientists analyzed the health status of women in Norway who gave birth before 1980, when the law on paid maternity leave was passed.

Today, the length of vacation in this country has increased to 46 weeks with the same salary, or 56 weeks with 80% of the salary.

To understand the impact of vacation, doctors took into account the body mass index of mothers, their blood pressure, cholesterol, sugar levels and markers of psychological health.
The results convincingly showed that maternity leave is useful, it reduces the risk of hypertension in women by 10%, reduces the craving for cigarettes by 16-18% and increases the craving for sports by 20%.

Scientists note that maternity leave significantly reduces stress levels in moms.
