Why monkey virus is added to covid vaccine

It seems to be about the British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and its vector vaccine.

Well, they don't just add the virus, but rather modify the chimpanzee adenovirus to make a vector out of it.

We have already discussed our domestic vectors, on the basis of which the Sputnik vaccine was made. The meaning is about the same.

In our vaccine, a vector from a human adenovirus delivers a gene to the nuclei of our cells that encodes one of the viral proteins. Cells begin to make this protein, and the immune system learns to recognize this protein. Then he will find out a real dangerous virus and deal with it.

So, so that immunity does not prematurely kill the adenovirus vector, this adenoviral vector was made from two different strains of adenovirus. Therefore, our Sputnik vaccine consists of two different components.

People are constantly suffering from adenovirus infection. If someone has met with an adenovirus before, then the immune system will instantly recognize the vector based on this adenovirus and kill it as a dangerous enemy. This vaccine will not work.

This is why our vaccine has two different vectors made from two different strains of adenovirus. It is assumed that even if our immunity is dealt with with one vector, the second will definitely work.

Some overseas vaccine manufacturers have taken a different route. They took a virus for the vector, to which our immunity does not react. For example, the so-called adeno-associated virus.

Such a virus attacks both humans and monkeys, but does nothing bad to us. Therefore, our immunity does not pay attention to it. The vaccine with the adeno-associated virus vector will work as expected.

The British took the third route. They just took the chimpanzee adenovirus. It is extremely unlikely that we have encountered it, so the vector vaccine based on the chimpanzee virus will not be quickly killed by our immunity either. So AstraZeneca did the right thing. This is a normal move.

However, personally I am a little confused by the prospect of vaccination with the monkey virus. The herpes virus and HIV that crossed the interspecies barrier immediately come to mind.
