Immunity after coronavirus lasts 8 months

The coronavirus pandemic is not going to decline, in such a situation, news about immunity in people who have already had this disease in the past is very important for the public.

Study that cites Le Figarospent in Institute of Immunology La Jolla (located in San Diego, California). Scientists have studied the likelihood of re-infection of people who have had coronavirus.

They found that the protection lasts 8 months.

This information is encouraging, showing that the coronavirus triggers a fairly predictable response from the immune system. Initially, there were theories that immunity lasts only 3-4 months, but now we can say that the coronavirus behaves like a classic virus, which is very important for predicting.

To understand what kind of immunity Covid-19 forms, American scientists studied materials on the health status of more than 200 patients infected with coronavirus. Among the participants in the experiment were 43 people who caught the virus a long time ago, more than 6 months ago.

Most have gone through moderate to severe disease, and studies have shown that 5-8 months after infection, 95% of patients had at least 3 components of immune memory in their blood, explained Shane Crotty, head of research.
The immune response is complex and goes beyond the production of antibodies. The body not only produces memory cells that store information about the virus, but also T-lymphocytes, which target enemy cells. Participants in the experiment had both memory cells and T-lymphocytes in their blood 7 months after the onset of symptoms. Their numbers appeared to have declined over time, but defense cells were present in 9 out of 10 patients after 6-10 months.
The publication notes that it is not yet known whether the immunity caused by vaccination will have a similar duration. New mutations of the coronavirus are also of concern, some of which may affect the ability of the immune system to recognize the virus.
