To protect the child or not to interfere? Understanding.

Children often have conflicts, especially in school age, when everyone feels like the center of the universe. What should a parent do? Intervene or let it take its course?

1. Support your child. He was offended, he was upset. Your task is to be a support, without condemnation and moralizing. Important for children of any age. Help your child express and experience the rush of emotion.

2. Hug your child and ask how you can help. Ask about his feelings and be there for as long as necessary (do I have to say that you should not worry about the possible ridicule of the offenders because of this?). If the parent is nearby, the child remembers for life that he has the support and protection he needs. This is most important and is the key to normal self-esteem.

3. Discuss the situation with your child. You, as a more experienced person, should teach the child to cope with the situation, tell him that other children may also be angry and offended, but, of course, they are wrong when they express their emotions, offending others. They may just be in a bad mood, and your child is always worthy of love and praise.

4. Separate emotions from facts. To understand the situation as a diplomat, you need to act sensibly and soberly.

5. Decide what kind of resolution you expect. If you need to establish contact with the offenders, try talking to their parents and explain why you would not want the child to be called names and bullied further. If you cannot establish contact with parents, and visiting this place of leisure is not critical, it is better to just find another.
