0 to 2 months

At birth, the child sees black and white, shades of gray, but by two months he sees all the colors. True, it is not known how this transition occurs. Research shows that many babies can distinguish between the primary colors blue, red and green almost from birth.

It is difficult for a kid to focus his gaze; in a month he sees more or less clearly at a distance of 20 cm from the eyes.

Newborns may also have hyperopia or myopia, which will gradually go away on their own in most cases.

The first couple of weeks, the pupils of the baby are narrowed in order to get used to the light - they begin to dilate.

At 2 months, the child already focuses his gaze well, distinguishes shades of colors and the smile of loved ones, smiles in response.

2-4 months

The child begins to better assess the depth of space, to understand how far or close an object is.

He also learns to follow the movement of objects, including toys. And by the end of the fourth month he can clearly distinguish what is happening outside the window.

4-8 months

By the age of 5 months, a child can perfectly distinguish colors and faces, recognizes familiar objects from a distance of several meters.

Also, the baby learns to distinguish the details, from 6 months he understands that the cat outside the window and the cat in the book are different cats, and there can be many other objects of the same type. Also, the baby gradually realizes that the object does not disappear when you remove it from the field of view, loves to play "peek-a-boo" and hide and seek.

9-12 months

A child sees colors in the same way as an adult. At the same time, the color of his eyes has already been formed and is unlikely to change during his life (there may be exceptions). The child recognizes objects and colors at a distance, distinguishes the faces of relatives.

Alarming symptoms in children under one year old:

  • reddened eyelids
  • too frequent blinking
  • strong sensitivity to light
  • persistent tearing of the eyes
  • pale pupils

For any of these symptoms, an urgent need to see a doctor.
