Parental divorce is a serious trauma for children.

What you should definitely tell your child and whether he should always stay with his mother - Dmitry Karpachev told about this in the framework of the psychological reality Supermama on STB.

According to the expert, one of the most important points is to correctly explain to the children the reason for the separation of mom and dad.

“Children often consider themselves to be guilty of parents' divorce. It seems to them that the parents disagree due to the fact that the child has done something wrong. And the worst thing that a mom or dad can do in such a situation is just disappear without explaining that the reason for the breakup is in the relationship. Children should be told that parents will live separately, but this will not affect the child's relationship with mom and dad, ”- says Dmitry Karpachev.

Often, after a divorce, children remain with their mother. Is this always correct and how to create conditions in which the child will be as comfortable as possible to communicate with both the mother and the father?

«In Ukraine, according to an unwritten rule, in case of divorce, the child remains with the mother. But this is not always true. Most civilized countries have switched to a different system in which there is a presumption of equality for the father and the mother, and custody of the child receives the one with whom the child will be better both physically, and psychologically. Therefore, if it is more convenient for children to live with dad, and just see mom - why not? In case of divorce, it is best for a child to live with mom and dad 50/50 - then he has the opportunity to build close relationships with both parents ",- Dmitry explains.
