Why are people prescribed antibiotics for pneumonia to fight bacteria?

Famous Ukrainian doctor and TV presenter Evgeny Komarovsky dispelled the myth of the treatment of pneumonia with antibiotics.

The doctor stressed that pneumonia can be both viral and bacterial. Doctors prescribe antibiotics only if a person's pneumonia is of a bacterial nature; against a viral one, such treatment is absolutely useless.
Antibiotic prophylaxis is foolish. This does not work. According to some reports, the appointment of antibiotics for viral infections 6-9 times increases the likelihood of developing bacterial pneumonia.
- emphasized the pediatrician. According to Komarovsky, antibiotics should not be taken if the patient does not have an elevated body temperature and oxygen deficiency. With such a clinical picture, any treatment will most likely only make it worse, because the body copes on its own.

If a bacterial infection, bacterial complication is not proven, antibiotics are simply contraindicated at any stage, even in the hospital, even at home.
