Attention: how long does a carrier of coronavirus remain infectious?

New research published in the medical journal The Lancet shows that infected patients can remain highly contagious for more than one month.

To pinpoint this period, scientists conducted laboratory tests on 191 people with coronavirus. For the longest time the virus was spread by people who later developed fatal complications.

Doctors note that their findings can be useful for both individuals who are in self-isolation, and for antiviral therapy, which, apparently, should last longer than usual now.

Currently, the recommended quarantine period is 14 days.
