Holidays are not a reason to fill up a house with disposable decorations, which then go to the landfill.

The bustle of the New Year often forces us to buy things that have nothing to do with conscious consumption. But decorating the house for the holiday is quite possible without unnecessary harm to ecology. It will also have a positive effect on your wallet.

Here are some ways to decorate your home environmentally and economically for the New Year.

1. Use jewelry from yesteryear

Of course, you always want something new. But this is not a reason to buy everything from scratch. Even old Soviet jewelry is of great value due to the memories associated with it. It remains to figure out how they can be stylishly fit into a modern interior.

2. Swap toys and jewelry with friends or family

This is a great way for both families to save on decorations while still getting a whole new kind of holiday decor. If you are determined to buy new toys, give old ones to your friends. Let them at least not buy too much before the holiday.

3. Ditch glitter jewelry

All this is microplastic that will enter both your body and the organisms of animals when the jewelry ends up in a landfill. It is also worth giving up the tinsel, which quickly loses its "marketable" appearance, which means it will go to the trash can after the holiday.

4. Pay attention to the live mini-trees

They look neat in the interior, do not interfere with anyone, do not require an abundance of decorations, and after all the holidays they can be planted in nature. So you will save the environment on several points at once and show children a positive example of dealing with nature.

5. Don't skimp on artificial trees

If you want to use a plastic tree for many years, you need to choose a durable, which means a rather expensive option. Otherwise, the tree will constantly crumble, create extra garbage for you, this plastic in huge quantities will end up in the landfill. And in the end, after 2-3 years, you will need a new tree.

6. Buy trees at legal points of sale

The tree must have a special label and accompanying documents that it is specially grown and intended for sale. Otherwise, you will support illegal logging.

7. Pay attention to the decor material

Of course, the cheapest and most affordable Christmas tree decor is plastic. But if you are not indifferent to ecology, give preference to textiles and toys. You can either buy them or make them yourself. It will also be useful to revive the tradition of hanging edible decorations on the tree - gingerbread and candies. And the decor for visiting can be cut out of paper with the children.

Do you like the aroma of eating in the house? Buy several separate branches, tangerines and compose yourself.
