Honey sbiten recipe at home

It is a delicious hot drink that has been brewed for hundreds of years.

Sbiten has a somewhat specific taste, but if you like honey and want to warm up quickly, then this drink will definitely suit you.

You will need: 1 liter of water, 150 g of honey, 100 g of sugar, 100 ml of juice, a pinch of cloves, 1 pc. bay leaf, 1 cinnamon stick, 1 tsp. grated ginger root, 1 pinch of red pepper.

How to cook

Pour water into a saucepan, bring to a boil. Stir sugar and honey in water until completely dissolved, add spices and cook for another 10-15 minutes, then add freshly squeezed apple juice.

The drink is served hot. You can not add honey right away, but wait until the liquid has cooled down a little. The main thing is that the temperature of the drink is sufficient for the complete dissolution of honey.

Sbiten is often brewed using herbs such as chamomile, sage or St. John's wort.

Adults can also add an alcoholic component to sbiten: beer, liqueurs or cognac. For fans of experimentation, there are recipes using yeast and hops where the sbiten is left to ferment.
