Children with a high body mass index (BMI) are more likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease and diabetes in adulthood, according to the Sunday Times.

A study by researchers from the University of Bristol has shown that the link between high BMI in childhood and the risks of various diseases in adults exists and has an impact on health.

The experiment covered coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Research results

If a 10-year-old child has a higher BMI than normal, he or she has a higher risk of developing diabetes or coronary artery disease in adulthood.

A high body mass index in girls reduced the risk of developing breast cancer later.

The association between BMI and prostate cancer in men has not been found.

According to the researchers, high BMI in adulthood plays an equally important role in the development of these dangerous diseases. In other words, even if you or your child were fat as a child, you can get rid of the risks by losing weight at any age.
