How does the disease manifest itself?
A rash in the form of beige nodules that rise above the surface of the skin. They usually do not itch and do not bother the child in any way.
You can get infected from another person with an infection, including through personal items such as towels, clothes, and even toys. Moreover, the disease may not manifest itself for several weeks.
You can catch an infection at any age, but most often it happens with preschoolers.
To treat or not to treat?
In children with normal immunity (without HIV and not undergoing chemotherapy), the rash will go away on its own. But this can take from several months to several years. Treatment is necessary if, due to the lack of immunity, the infection causes complications.
Also, the disease can proceed with complications with concomitant diseases such as eczema, or if the rash appears on the eyelids and the infection has struck the eyes.
But most often, molluscum contagiosum bothers only with its appearance, especially in adolescents.
Treatment for this disease is possible, but it is purely cosmetic. The doctor can remove the rash by cauterizing with liquid nitrogen or by pulling out the contents with tweezers. He can also prescribe drugs based on potassium hydroxide or salicylic acid - for external use.But no method guarantees that the rash will go away forever. Even if all of them are removed at the same time, the infection can appear again.
You can not try to independently remove or cauterize the rash at home, self-medicating. You can simply spread the infection across the skin and new rashes will appear. Scars may also remain.
