It is doctors who see most of the consequences of parental carelessness and hidden dangers that lie in wait for children at home.
But there are things that are less obvious. Here are three life hacks from pediatricians who are constantly dealing with domestic injuries in children.
1. Kettle and acid
Everyone knows that limescale inside the kettle can be removed with citric acid or a special acid-containing substance.
The danger lies in the fact that for cleaning, the agent must be poured into a kettle of water and allowed to stand. And many people eventually forget (or they were not warned) that there is acid in the kettle.
Accordingly, then this water can be used for the preparation of baby food or drinks. And it's good if there was food citric acid - the damage to health will be minimal. But if the acid is technical or some strong chemical, then swallowing it is very dangerous for both children and adults.
And the advice given by pediatricians is very simple: if there is a cleaning agent in the kettle, do not put it in its usual place. Place in a place where the kettle definitely does not belong (but away from children). And it is also advisable to attach a warning sticker to it.
2. Magnetic constructor and scotch tape
Everyone knows how dangerous neocubes are for children - toys made of very small magnetic balls. But at the same time, many forget that the now popular magnetic constructors carry a similar danger.
The construction set is made of plastic, its parts are very easy to disassemble or can break if a child hits the floor or throws it into the wall. The part broke - the magnet fell out. The risk of a baby swallowing a small magnet is very high. And if he swallows two magnets, it's deadly.
To avoid tragedy, you need to wrap each part of the constructor with tape so that the magnet cannot be reached without a knife. And, of course, do not give such toys to children under 3 years old and without a conversation about safety. If you suspect a child has swallowed a magnet, you can check this with a compass.
3. Flat battery toys
When giving your child a toy with batteries, make sure they are hidden under a cover that cannot be opened without a screwdriver. Otherwise, it is very easy for a child to reach out and swallow the small button cell batteries.
If you buy the toy yourself, check how the battery compartment cover is attached. No screws - don't take. If a toy was presented, it will immediately check the availability of batteries and, if necessary, dispose of a potentially dangerous item.
It is also worth checking all the things in the house where there are batteries - remotes, kitchen scales. If the cover can be easily removed and the battery is very easy to get - you need to wrap them with tape.
