This fun day originated in ancient Rome, although many sources claim that April Fool's Day appeared in ancient India, where the holiday of jokes was celebrated on the last day of March. There is another suggestion that the Irish celebrated April 1, and that in honor of the New Year.
There is another version of the origin of this merry holiday. They say that April Fool's Day associated with the transition to the Gregorian calendar, which was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. Once the New Year was celebrated at the end of March, and the New Year's week ended on April 1. But in the middle of the 16th century, King Charles IX reformed the calendar in France and postponed the New Year to January 1.
