Can a doctor infect a baby when visiting at home: the answer of Dr. Komarovsky

If the baby is sick, the parents call the pediatrician at home. Is there a chance that the baby will catch the disease from the doctor?

On my personal blog Dr. Komarovsky answered the question of one subscriber about the likelihood of catching a viral infection from the doctor himself when examining a baby at home due to the doctor's communication with many infected children.

Komarovsky hastened to calm down the questioner. According to him, in his practice, for many years, this did not happen, despite the theoretical possibility of transmission of infection from a doctor to a small patient.
Not all diseases are transmitted by contact. This is how, for example, diphtheria, meningococcal meningitis, scarlet fever are transmitted, but doctors very rarely become a source of infection.

The doctor recalled that doctors with weak immunity cannot work in contact with infectious patients, because they themselves will be constantly ill.
