Life without gall: how next?

Whatever it was, but you can live without a gallbladder if it is removed. The liver will still produce bile, which will flow into the intestines to digest fats.

Of course, after the operation, there will be some pain and discomfort in the abdomen, and the organs will not work very well. You should be ready for this and help the body in difficult times. It is necessary to unload the liver and bile ducts - to reduce the portions of food, so as not to involve a lot of bile in the digestion process. In addition, it is better to reduce the fat content of dishes, because bile is required precisely for the digestion of fats.

Diarrhea several months long

This does not go beyond the normal range after surgery and is observed in 10-20% of patients who underwent biliary removal. The cause of diarrhea is still the same bile, since it acts on the intestines almost like a laxative. While the gallbladder was in place, he supplied this bile strictly to food intake, and now it constantly enters the intestines. That's the whole difference, as well as the reason for the weakness.

In order not to provoke diarrhea, you need to consume less fat, choosing foods with a low fat content (no more than 3 grams per serving). In this case, fat should not exceed 30% of the daily calorie content of food.

It is impossible to completely abandon it, fat is necessary for the normal functioning of the human body.

Eat fiber-rich foods

Fiber (and it is found in fruits and vegetables and whole grains) binds water and bile acids, that is, it makes the stool more shaped and does not irritate the intestinal wall (since it draws water onto itself).

True, fiber can cause bloating, which is not good, especially after surgery. So, foods rich in gas-forming fiber should be introduced into the diet gradually.

So as not to swell

Naturally, the less gas in the abdomen, the less it hurts. Therefore (and not only after the operation to remove the bile, but in principle):

- Avoid chewing gum so as not to swallow air that causes bloating;

- limit smoking (for the same reason);

- do not drink carbonated water;

- consult a psychotherapist if you constantly feel a lump in your throat and want to swallow;

- reduce the consumption of dairy products, honey, sweet fruits;

- Eat less cabbage and legumes, fried potatoes (as a product containing poorly digestible starch that provokes bloating);

- Limit foods with sugar substitutes (such as sorbitol).

Laxative

Bile itself weakens, and if you also "help" her with products that have a laxative effect (coffee, milk, sweets), then it will not be good at all. So you should carefully adjust your own menu for every day in order to avoid pain and discomfort.

To make an appointment with a doctor

You should immediately consult your doctor if, after undergoing biliary surgery, you have:

- the pain does not go away for a long time (or maybe it even became stronger over time);

- there is nausea, vomiting;

- constipation lasts more than 3 days;

- gases did not leave for more than 3 days;

- diarrhea lasts more than 72 hours.

Also, seek help from your doctor if you suddenly began to lose weight.

In general, a full life without gall is quite possible. The main thing is to get through the rehabilitation period correctly. And there, you see, everything will work out (unless, of course, nothing extraordinary happens).
