Why is the stomach rumbling?

We can say with confidence that every person has heard the rumbling in his stomach at least once in his life. And I thought that hunger was making itself felt.

However, the feeling of hunger is just one of the many reasons for the phenomenon. An unpleasant sound in the womb can come from a variety of reasons. This can be due to problems with digestion or assimilation of food, as well as difficult digestion of some "heavy" foods and dishes. Rumbling is heard when the remains of food and liquids, together with gases, move from the stomach into the small intestine.

Enzymes and the digestive process

At the moment of digestion of food, the human body produces enzymes that facilitate the process. These enzymes are needed to break down food, and they also aid in the absorption of nutrients. This is followed by muscle contractions, pushing semi-digested food debris from the stomach further along the digestive tract. It is at this moment that rumbling is heard (if heard). This most often happens when food is poorly chewed, not light enough for digestion, and is accompanied by soda or fermented foods. Sometimes this rumbling can change to bloating.

Of course, an unpleasant sound can also indicate hunger. Indeed, even when there is no food in the stomach, it continues to produce enzymes and "push" non-existent food into the intestines. Strange sounds will continue exactly as long as the food does not enter the body.

Painful rumbling

However, rumbling is often painful in nature and may be associated with:

- allergy to any food;

- food intolerance;

- an infection affecting the gastrointestinal tract;

- intestinal blockage;

- irritable bowel syndrome.

Rules against rumbling in the stomach

It should be remembered that rumbling in the stomach is quite common even for a healthy gastrointestinal tract. But so that it does not turn into a constant obsessive state, certain rules should be followed:

1. Drink in small sips

A large glass of water taken in one gulp on an empty stomach will only make the rumbling in your stomach louder. But if you drink in small sips, the unpleasant sounds will stop for a while.

2. Chew food thoroughly

Do not eat "on the run" - it is fraught with problems and even gastrointestinal diseases. Chew slowly and thoroughly. The less food elements are swallowed, the easier it will be for the stomach and intestines. This means the likelihood of rumbling during digestion will be reduced to zero.

3. Reduce to a minimum (or even remove altogether) the use of sugar, carbonated drinks, alcohol

All of these foods irritate the digestive tract, causing increased acid secretion and a loud rumbling in the stomach. Coffee and citrus juices work in a similar way.

4. Get tested regularly
