Why does onion peel decoction make hair luxurious (and why is it not for everyone)?

Hello dear readers :-)

Recently, a photo with an action in Magnet was circulated on the Internet, at which many laughed. More precisely, it caused laughter among schoolchildren and students who do not know that eggs are painted with onion peels for Easter.

They laugh at Magnet
They laugh at Magnet's "generous share". As for me - quite a normal action

Onion peels (like the onions themselves) are perhaps the only product from the refrigerator that is worthy of attention in folk beauty recipes.

There are two camps in the world of beauty: one - for cosmetics and progressive formulas, the rest - for folk recipes and creating cosmetics with your own hands (from everything that is in the kitchen and at the summer cottage). Onion masks and onion peel decoctions are the only things both camps approve of. They are considered ineffective by those who have never tried to make such a mask or decoction for themselves.

Chinese cosmetics manufacturers just a year or two ago discovered onions in cosmetics - the hair after it is luxurious, strong, shiny, the scalp does not dry (

also saves against dandruff better than tar shampoo). The only negative is the smell. The Chinese are still struggling to resolve this issue and promise to soon release skin care cosmetics with onion extract without "stink".

As for the onion peel, it also has one serious drawback - it dyes the hair. For those with dark hair color, onion peel decoction can be used safely. For dyed blondes, this is a cat in a bag, a green or lime shade may appear.

If you remove the pungent smell in the onion extract, and the coloring pigment in the onion husk decoction, then the effectiveness of the onion comes to naught. Therefore, everything is so scarce with cosmetics from this component.

What is special about onion skins? Why is the hair after it luxurious and the scalp healthy?

There are a lot of vitamins and microelements in onion skins. I will highlight the most basic ones.

1. Quercetin is a plant flavonoid. For many, the word "flavonoid" is associated with the strengthening of blood vessels. Indeed, you can read about it in any medical source.

Quercetin not only strengthens blood vessels, but also reduces inflammation. It is very beneficial for the scalp. Healthy blood vessels -> normal blood circulation -> healthy nutrition of hair follicles -> hair grows normally and does not fall out.

Quercentin protects the membranes of skin cells, is an antioxidant (i.e. does not allow us to age prematurely) and at the same time well saturates the skin with oxygen. there is scientific evidence of thisthat it is in the onion peel that there is more quercentin than in the onion itself.

Quercentin is found in horse chestnut, tomatoes, flowers and fruits of witch hazel (witch's nut), leaves gingko (trees that are older than dinosaurs and have survived everything that has happened on earth for millions of years) and in clover. As you can see, onion peel from all the components would come out cheaper in the production of care cosmetics.

2. Carotenoids is a precursor of vitamin A. Carotenoids help the skin to strengthen its fight against UV light. One of the reasons why onion peel decoctions are so good in summer, and will greatly help save on conditioners and hair oils.

3. Phytoncides - something that kills bacteria to smithereens. There are also phytoncides in garlic, so in kindergarten we wore a yellow capsule from a kinder surprise with garlic inside around our neck :-)

There are more phytoncides in the husks of red and yellow onions than in white ones. This information will be of interest to those who cannot cope with dandruff and have tried a bunch of shampoos, but there is no extra money for peeling. IN past articles I wrote that the reason for the formation of dandruff may be hidden in the presence of the yeast-like fungus malassezia. Phytoncide products cope with it, so onion skins are an excellent candidate in the fight against dandruff.

That's basically it. If suddenly someone tells you that onion peel in hair care is nonsense, now you will have something to answer your opponent ;-)
