An unusual incident took place in Toronto, Canada's largest city. A 30-year-old girl was admitted to the trauma center with a bullet wound. She was in a state of mild shock, but could talk and move calmly.
The patient told the doctors the following story: she was just walking down the street, heard a loud sound of a shot and something stabbed in her chest, looked at her - and there was blood. The shooter was never found, and it is not known for sure whether the story itself is true. Maybe the girl knew the shooter but did not want to hand him over to the police.
Only one thing is known: they were shooting at close range from a firearm. During the initial examination, the doctors found the following: in the upper part of the left breast there was a small hole, and in the right - a strange seal. This was the bullet stuck in the right chest.
An X-ray was taken of the victim, from which it turned out that the bullet had hit the girl's rib and got stuck in the right side of the chest; vital organs were not affected. A broken rib and a small bruised lung - nothing more.
Plastic surgeon Giancarlo McAvery fully examined the X-ray, CT and radiological evaluations, as well as the affected silicone implants.
He concluded that if there was no left breast implant that overlaps the inner cavity of the chest and the heart itself, then the girl would not have survived after the shot, a bullet could hit heart. Thanks to the silicone breast, the bullet changed its trajectory and got stuck in the right implant.
The incident took place this spring. The surgeons removed both implants to the victim, removed the bullet and that's it. There was no long rehabilitation, the girl quickly recovered.
