"Oh, this terrible and terrible dimethicone in cosmetics": why is it needed in the composition, and is it worth it to be afraid?

Dimethicones in cosmetics are like spiders in the house. They are harmless, they do the work for people to get rid of harmful insects at home, but they do not notice this and are still afraid of them. Someone at the sight of a spider can generally be stunned, as an adherent of natural cosmetics from the abundance of silicones and stabilizers in the composition in a jar that he liked.

The media at one time did a very good job on the bikes addressed to Dimethicone. This is understandable, in the information field, HYIP is still the leader in terms of profitability. Dimethicone was at one time found guilty of: dryness and irritation of the skin, clogged pores, provoking the development of fungal infections, environmental pollution, the acceleration of skin aging and in many ways harmful.

However, among the distributors of such stories and those who believe in them, there are probably those who wear lenses. Dimethicone is part of a silicone hydrogel material from which modern contact lenses are made.

Who does not believe - can study it himself at his leisure contact lens manufacturing technology patent. The text refers to dimethylsiloxane - this is the chemical name for dimethicone.

Whoever wears lenses will now agree with me: silicone hydrogel options are in fact the most comfortable to wear, the eyes do not turn red and the cornea does not dry out. These lenses have a high oxygen permeability index (120-150 Dk / t). This suggests that the risk of eye redness is minimized, the cornea receives oxygen.

Now tell me: after such a fact, how can you believe in nonsense that because of dimethicone the skin "does not breathe"? :-)

The next nail in the coffin of the dimethicone myths is its safety for children. As we all know, any products for children (whether it's food, baby toys, or shampoos) is under strict control. So, dimethicone is in kinetic sand (98% silicon dioxide and 2% dimethicone) and in modern means for lice, which would simply not be sold without the approval of the Ministry of Health.

Why dimethicone in cosmetics

Almost everyone knows that dimethicone is a good thing in hair products that makes shiny and silky hair out of hay on the head. Boring information.

But the fact that it is required in products for dry and damaged skin, as well as after all peels and laser resurfacing at a beautician, while significantly saving money in your wallet - will be for many discovery.

Cosmetics with such a texture of the contents, which is enough to squeeze out from a pea and this will be enough to apply to the entire face, plus it will also be on the neck and décolleté - the merit of Dimethicone. As part of it, a little is required, a maximum of 5%. Even 2% of dimethicone in skincare products makes the texture fluid, and the consumption of the cream is economical. A thin film is created on the skin, through which oxygen and water calmly pass, and harmful microorganisms under it quickly give God their soul.

Is dimethicone such an ideal polymer? After all, this is "chemistry"

Let's start with the fact that a polymer is any chemical compound consisting of a large number of identical molecules. the nature of the origin is not important. Our body has many of its polymers, for example, hyaluronic acid. Nature is full of polymers, the same cane sugar. Dimethicone, by the way, is a natural polymer (or silicone, call it what you want).

If you devote your whole life to researching medical research on the dangers of dimethicone, you will not find it. Life will only be lived in vain. Our Ministry of Health has no questions for him, and even the FDA (the authority of this organization at the international level is higher than that of other ministries of health). The Ministry of Health of Switzerland and Japan is similar.

For dry, dehydrated and damaged skin, creams and other dimethicone products are ideal. It allows moisture to pass through, restores the protective layer of the skin, it does not care about cold and ultraviolet light, it is incredibly stable.

There is one but. If everything is fine with your skin, then you should not indulge in dimethicone creams often. That light and thin film created by it on the surface of the skin still prevents the skin from normalizing its lipid profile. The skin, so to speak, "relaxes and gets used to the help" of dimethicone, which does not consider it necessary to synthesize lipids once again. Simply put, normal skin can make it prone to dryness.
