English actress Helen Mirren celebrates her 75th birthday this year. She continues to shine on the red carpet in gorgeous outfits, star in glossy photo shoots, and a few years ago even became the face of L'Oréal cosmetics, advertising mature skin care.
Mirren is listed in beauty compilations as the owner of a fine-wrinkled type of aging, and it seems that she never intended to hide her wrinkles. It is not known for certain whether she did plastic surgery or beauty injections, but if she did, then the result is minimal, without radical changes.
5 years ago, on the air of one of the British television programs, Mirren was invited to the studio just after her 70th birthday. The presenters rushed to shower the actress with compliments about her fantastic image, assuring that she did not look 70 at all. But the star quite sharply reined in the presenters, saying that she owes her appearance to makeup and styled hair, but in fact she just looks for all her years. That's how she doesn't like flattery.
We present excerpts from various interviews of the actress about how she accepts her age and what she thinks about beauty and the cult of youth.
About the complexes of youth
The sixties was Twiggy's era, and I was not like her. To be fashionable, you had to be thin, smoke and wear black, and I had chubby cheeks, short legs and rounded shapes. I just didn't fit into this image. But I perfectly fit the stereotypical image of the blonde, which I hated.
About gray hair and filters
I am often asked why I do not dye my hair and hide my gray hair. I'm just too lazy to do it and, frankly, I don't care about it. True, once I took a chance and dyed my hair pink. But in everyday life, I don't. Have you seen men who paint over gray hair? Red hair at the roots... It's so funny and weird!
I'm sure that photo filters will soon disappear. When everyone is doing this, people soon appear who will not do it precisely because everyone is passionate about it. My face is retouched on posters, advertisements and photo shoots. It looks great, but it's not me.
When I was young and I had beautiful skin, I couldn't even imagine how you can go outside without putting on makeup! Today I don’t worry about it and go without makeup. The older you get, the less you care.
About “older women»
If people treat me, focusing on my age, it insults me. I just can't stand it when they give me a seat! No, no and NO! I don't need your place!
I have noticed that articles like "Clothes for older women" often appear in fashion magazines. And in the photo there are women who are about 60! They are not 70, not 80, not 90! "An elderly woman" is a nightmare phrase.
When I was in my 40s, I was annoyed by an ad for an anti-wrinkle cream presented by a 16-year-old girl. Sorry, but how can you trust this? Fortunately, now everything has changed thanks to feminism. Women have long fought for their right to be who they are and won.
About beauty and style
Do I feel beautiful? I hate this word! We can be attractive, interesting, fascinating. 90% of women in the world do not fit the definition of "beautiful". Of course, beauty comes from within, but, nevertheless, this word is applied specifically to women in luxurious outfits from the pages of fashion magazines.
I like things that fit me well. Good shoes are also very important because they cheer you up. But I try not to be too influenced by fashion. My stylist knows what suits me and my everyday style is old T-shirts and ancient skirts.
About aging
You either leave young or you grow old. The first never suited me, because I'm too interested in living. Aging is the natural movement of life. This is reality. You have to accept it and let it happen. This happens to every person on the planet. It's just part of being human.
