If you plan to drink rainwater, then collect it in a container that is designed specifically for drinking water. There is very little salt in rainwater. This demineralized water quickly corrodes metals. We've already discussed this in the stories about home filters.
If rainwater is collected in a container not intended for this business, then the water will begin to dissolve the container material. If such a barrel was not designed for water, then any poisonous muck can be washed out of it into the water.
You can not drink water that is glass from the roof, covered with bitumen and all kinds of roofing materials. Poison is released from these resins.

Flies are not an easy story. There was a case when one citizen with a hangover drank from a barrel of rainwater, and then told the doctor that worms with "head and eyes" came out of him. The citizen was even shown to a psychiatrist, but they quickly found out that these were fly larvae. They are real with a head and eyes.
In any case, it is undesirable to drink rainwater alive. It is necessary to pass it through the simplest filter in order to retain the debris, and then boil it.
