The Chinese have already learned from the bitter experience of the past coronavirus epidemic, which flared up 15 years ago. There have been cases where the infected people were only tied up by a sewer pipe.
After scientific research, they found out that splashes from the toilet bowl can fly out a meter and a half.
In theory, such splashes do not necessarily infect because a certain infectious dose is required to infect. But the very fact of the contagious aerosol was confirmed.
Hence, new rules appeared. It is recommended to wear a mask in public toilets. Anything that is possible is advised to open and move your legs or elbows. And before flushing the toilet, you must close the lid. This will keep the aerosol under the lid.
And now about the smell. In order for an infectious aerosol to be drawn from the toilet into the ventilation, an eight-fold air exchange is needed. This means that if you looked into a booth, and there it stinks of a toilet, then you cannot go there. We must wait to ventilate.
A second similar situation is associated with water locks.
All drains, including floor drains in the shower, have a water seal that prevents stinking air from escaping from the drain.
But these odor traps can dry out. So if you smell the sewage from such drains, then there may simply not be enough water.
Therefore, in houses with a large number of such drains, it is recommended to regularly pour water into the water locks. Otherwise, a contagious aerosol may fly from neighbors.
